The present article is a contribution to the history of Arabic pharmacology. It deals with an anonymous Old Dispensatory of which fifteen fragments are preserved in the Kit

ammad ibn Zakar

(d. 313/925 or 323/935). In the course of a short survey this old, and otherwise lost dispensatory is dated on the basis of the extant fragments to the middle of the 3rd/9th century, rating it among the earliest specimens of Arabic pharmacology currently known. The fragments are given in the original Arabic together with an English translation. An English-Arabic glossary of materia medica and an index of botanical names conclude the article.
